Customer satisfaction in the fish market of Presidente Figueiredo (Central Amazon)

ABSTRACT

In this paper, we describe the customers’ satisfaction level in the Presidente Figueiredo fish market. To obtain this information we interviewed 145 customers, between 09/2017 and 04/2018, distributed among the city’s four main sale places. From this sample, 57% said they were satisfied with the available fish and only 15% were dissatisfied. Freshness seems to be the most important aspect in this market: 22% of the satisfied respondents pointed freshness as one of the reasons for their satisfaction and 45% of the dissatisfied respondents pointed the lack of freshness as the reason for their dissatisfaction. We also note the older establishment had a higher the proportion of dissatisfied customers. We believe there is a tendency to disappoint customers, caused by unpleasant events, throughout the venture’s life time. Regardless of this question, we can conclude that a good strategy to attract and retain customers would be to invest in the product freshness.

Aquaculture in the Central Amazon: experiencing stream cage fish farming at a remote community

ABSTRACT

We report an experience of matrinxã Brycon amazonicus farming in a stream cage at the farther rural community of Presidente Figueiredo city (Central Amazon). The operations followed the standard technical procedures of water analysis, biometry and handling. Result shows a bad crop performance, which we can say is mostly due to structural and economic deficiencies, a common problem among local farmers. We believe, however, this report to be important and interesting as a document of the difficulties and some practical solutions used by the fish farmers in theses far communities.

RESUMO

Relatamos aqui uma experiência com o acompanhamento do cultivo de matrinxã Brycon amazonicus em viveiro de igarapé na comunidade rural mais distante de Presidente Figueiredo. As operações de monitoramento seguiram os procedimentos técnicos padrão apresentados ao longo do Curso Técnico em Recursos Pesqueiros. Os resultados apontam para o baixo desempenho do cultivo decorrente das deficiências estruturais e dificuldades econômicas, caso frequente entre os produtores rurais da localidade. Esse relato é importante para documentar as dificuldades e soluções práticas para a piscicultura em comunidades distantes.

Hydrological seasons fast identification applied to Jaitêua and São Lourenço lakes, Manacapuru, Amazonas State

RESUMO

This paper approaches the application of Hydrological Seasons Fast Identification procedure, proposed by Bittencourt & Amadio (2007), to floodplain lakes with no hydrometric history. For this, we used the correlation between the Solimões river water level, from January 1972 to December 2015, and the Jaitêua and São Lourenço lakes depths, collected from July 2006 to June 2007. Besides the usual results, seasons limits and its intensity and duration classes, we spotted differences between the river and lakes hydrological seasons, a phenomena normally associated with the environments connectivity. Most importantly, we would like to stimulate the debates about arbitraries and the development of better methodological standards for Amazon floodplains seasons identifications.

Estudantes de Recursos Pesqueiros recebem treinamento em seleção de áreas para instalação de viveiros aquícolas

A atividade é oferecida anualmente e visa a capacitação de profissionais para atuar na expansão da área produtiva de Presidente Figueiredo

O treinamento intensivo consistiu da demonstração de métodos para estimativa da vazão e capacidade de abastecimento de córregos naturais, testes rápidos da qualidade do solo, georreferenciamento e elaboração de plantas de empreendimentos aquícolas. Essa é uma atividade integrada à disciplina Construções Aquícolas do Curso Técnico em Recursos Pesqueiros. Nesse ano de 2018, ela foi conduzida nas dependências do IFAM Campus Presidente Figueiredo, nos dias 23/02 e 02/03, totalizando 16 horas de treinamento. Através dessa atividade, o Instituto espera contribuir com a aquicultura no município, fomentando o desenvolvimento e a melhoria da qualidade de vida na região.
